i lost count of how many times people asked this question already. and the answer is i don't know. i don't have plans to get a pr. even though bolehland is not a very good place to stay, that doesn't make aussie a very good place to stay either. (however i do agree that melbourne is safer than kl, but that doesn't conclude that melbourne is VERY safe..)
first it's the food. yes i can find malaysian restaurants here, but they don't have my favourite lou shu fun that i like.. especially those in the kopitiam where i can choose soup or dry ones. there are only the famous delights in the very few malaysian cuisines, like nasi lemak, chicken rice, assam laksa (it tastes like curry laksa and not even using the correct noodle - lai fun!). but they can't be compared to the ones at kampung baru or jalan alor. the downside of it is the cleanliness - which you and i knows pretty well and i don't have to elaborate.
speaking of good food, going down to seremban or melaka is a very good idea. hakka noodle, chicken riceball, cendol, aiskacang. melbourne?? 1 day trip?? don't dream too much. 1 day trip might cost a bunch and i have no idea melbourne has what kind of food to attract people. what food in melbourne is famous? in the bolehland it's nasilemak, assamlaksa, charkuehteow and lots more. melbourne?! korean food? japanese food? sorryla, those are not aussiefood also.
back in malaysia, all of us goes back to my grandaunt's (yeepo) house whenever there's a significant event, like chinese new year, or whatever festival. somehow i'll ask why do we need to go and i'll get the answer. last month, it was dumpling festival and i have zero clue about it until dad mentioned i think? see, i don't even realize it because i'm in australia. if i'm in malaysia i can see few bags of dumplings given by [insert whoever that gives]. then i'll get to eat the zhong's. steam then can eat already. so yummy! then, the upcoming mooncake festival and winter solstice festival. i'm gonna miss the mooncakes and tongyuens. :(
what else? racism issues? yes, in malaysia it is THAT bad, and i shall not say a word about it. later isa detain me when i arrive klia, how? here in aussie, it's not that good either. the angmo's doesn't like asian and it's a fact. yes they are very nice people, but not all of them are nice! just like that stupid woman at emporio at bourke street. i was keen on getting that pair of shoes and she completely ignored me at first. like as if i can't afford that pair of shoes. don't want to layan me. when another angmo customer called her she immediately put on a smile. it's like as though asians can't afford to buy shoes and only angmo can. eff you la, if you were that good you wouldn't be a bloody salesgirl in a stupid shop in the first place.
the nightlife here is pretty dull to begin with. when i mean nightlife, it's not all about clubs and pubs. apart from clubs, i also like pasar malam and mamak sessions at night. the joy of going to pasar malam is the food!! can eat loklok, apambalik, fishballs, unclebob chicken, tongshui, assam laksa, sotong goreng, all sorts of juices - sugarcane, coconut, yellow jelly drink and so many more. and they are not very expensive either... and mamak sessions! teh halia, teh o ais limao~ omg, you know how much is it for a cup of teh tarik here?! when it comes to yumchar in melbourne, it's starbucks, maxbrenners and so on. expensive gila!
anyways, i really am not prepared at all to answer that question. moreover it's not like i will get a pr if i ever apply. i'm not praising the bolehland - don't get confused. it's just that i've been brought up to stay in bolehland and i've been staying there for years. moving to australia permanently is a very big step and it takes a lot if i really want to move here. that actually means i still prefer malaysia over aussie. :)
